This bright, colour-saturated self-portrait was painted in response to a question about how we respond to life's challenges.
Modern life can, at times, feel fragile and yet also exhaustingly long and dry. In considering the question, I found that I lacked the language to wrestle with it let alone form an answer, but as my own face emerged from the canvas so too did a reply.
What was the question? It was this: 'Does the bleakness of life never frighten you?' If she has an answer, it is in her eyes.
This is an acrylic on canvas painting framed in a stained black American Ash float frame and ready to hang.
