Artwork Description

This artwork refers to the encompassing, the complete, the entirety. In this work, concentric patterning surrounds a luminous core, suggesting the wholeness of Divine order, the unity of all parts, and the still centre around which our existence moves. It invites reflection on oneness: of creation, of self, of the Divine. Geometric islamic patterns and organic forms are scattered throughout.

Artist Bio

Jessica Watson-Thorp is an accomplished Fine Artist with over twenty years experience creating bespoke works for a dedicated global collector base. Formally trained in Australia across all disciplines of fine art—including painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and curatorship—Watson-Thorp’s practice is rooted in both rigorous technique and deep emotional inquiry.

Through painting and printmaking she explores the nuances of the human condition, touching on themes such as belonging, identity, intercultural experience, tolerance, homecoming, and women in leadership. With a keen sensitivity to both the internal and external landscapes that shape us, she weaves personal narrative with broader human truths—inviting viewers into a space of reflection and emotional resonance.

Having spent more than half her life living among diverse cultural communities—from the arid beauty of the Middle East to the vibrant pulse of Southern Africa and the refined cool of London—Watson-Thorp brings an expansive, global perspective to her work. While she now calls Melbourne home, her many ‘homes’ continue to inform her visual language. Symbols and codes drawn from the Middle East intertwine with the bold, luminous colours of the Australian landscape, creating richly layered works that are both personal and universal.

“Art is entwined in every facet of my life,” she reflects. “I was painting before I could write, guided by my grandmother who nurtured my creativity with love and adventure. I grew up in rural South Australia, sheltered until I left home at 17 to study abroad. Since then, life has been a continuous unfolding.”

Her return to Australia in 2019 stirred complex feelings around identity and displacement—experiences that continue to influence her current body of work. Navigating the tension between the familiar and the foreign, she often returns to her “internal landscape” to find balance within a new external reality. Through this lens, her work becomes a meditation on cultural assimilation, identity formation, and spiritual homecoming.

Watson-Thorp invites viewers into stillness—a moment of pause in a fast-moving world. Her art offers space to reflect, connect, and ultimately discover something of themselves and the shared human journey.

Her recent exhibitions include 26 Advantage Gallery and Eagles Nest Fine Art Gallery along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, SIKKA and Mestaria Gallery in Dubai, and Novus Gallery in Abu Dhabi. She has exhibited alongside renowned artists such as Zhuang Hong Yi, Richard Orlinski, Wissam Shakut, El Saeed, Noora Al Mazrouie, and master calligraphers Ahmad Moualla, Khaled Al Saai, and Majid Al Youssef.

Watson-Thorp’s work has been featured on MTV and in numerous publications including Women in Business, Gulf Daily News (Dubai), The National (Abu Dhabi), Time Out Dubai, Arabian Woman, and Magpie Magazine. Committed to the power of philanthropic art, she regularly contributes her time and work to charitable causes, particularly those connected to Southern Africa.
