Hui's paintings respond to her recent family gathering during Lunar New Year in Hong Kong. The work relates to a painting series created this year that examines family reunion and parting and Hui's mixed feelings of bliss and grief in celebration and grave visiting. Blue symbolises running tears and over-flowing emotions in the series.
In front of the lift depicts blooming chrysanthemums Hui saw in front of a lift to her home in Hong Kong. Chrysanthemums are displayed commonly in public during the new year in her home city that the flower symbolises luck and longevity. The blue flower pedals fill the entire painting with water drops dripping down. Among the crowded scene of flowers, Hui adds a miniature person who is looking at its hollowed heart, connecting the painting to the rest of the series on introspection.
