Jill Thompson is an emerging artist based in the coastal town of Lennox Head, in northern New South Wales. Her abstract landscapes are shaped by visceral memories of sound, scent and fleeting visual impressions gathered while cycling off-road trails and hiking remote paths. Working primarily in acrylic, Thompson often incorporates collage, ash, sand and other natural elements onto canvas, wooden panels or reclaimed timber blocks, grounding the materiality of her work in the environment.
"I love those special moments when you approach the top of a climb - as you round the final corner the air changes, the cool breeze hits your face, the trees part and the landscape reveals itself! That fleeting sense of awe is what I seek to translate and share in my work."
