Artwork Description

Checkered Heart

Love and Games, or a Checkered Heart, read into it what you will?

I have created 4 new original digital prints with Augmented Reality to be released exclusively on Bluethumb.

Each a heart floating in a digital realm as part of my ongoing Crypto Hearts/Love Art series. A series that continues to explore the metaphor of a heart, of love, of the luminous beauty of the imagined world.

My Augmented reality (AR) prints come alive when viewed through a smart phone or a tablet.

A print to grace your wall, a virtual animation when viewed through the free ARTIVIVE app, also each comes with an NFT. A contemporary art notion that an artwork can exist in both a physical as well as a digital form.

My first painting that incorporated Augmented Reality was of a Skipping Girl neon painting exhibited in the 2014 Melbourne Art Fair. Later that same painting was shortlisted for the Wynne Art Prize at the AGNSW.

However, it was during the start of the pandemic that I returned to creating Augmented Reality artworks, digital artworks and NFTs. During the lockdowns and closed borders, I wasn’t able travel to take photographs for paintings and my galleries were effectively closed. I found a way to create images digitally and to sell them worldwide as NFTs, (Non-Fungible Tokens), basically unique digital art that is recorded on the blockchain to certify authenticity and ownership.

These original digital works of art are limited to only an edition of 10.

Artist Bio

Born in 1962, Jim Thalassoudis is an established Australian contemporary artist with four decades of exhibiting history both nationally and internationally.

With 45 solo exhibitions, over 300 group shows, his paintings have been included in 15 Art Fairs (local and international), and acquired by state and regional art galleries, as well as major private and corporate collections.

“Jim Thalassoudis's art follows the soul's night journey and comes to life in urban cityscapes. His paintings delve into the artificial modern glow of sleeping cities and mesmerising, lurid skies coloured by the glare of the setting sun.” Nelly Skoufatoglou
The artist’s paintings are deeply considered homages to the majesty of the sky, focusing on neon-filled lights that point and snake their way through our night cityscapes.
The luminous night, a time from before the sun sets to just after has a magic allure that Thalassoudis loves to capture. “It is all about recreating the atmosphere of a particular place in time”."Capturing what normally is elusive and ever-changing, preserving it in paint and made still for all time, allows the viewer to identify meanings that resonate from within."
