Artwork Description

This expressive painting captures the internal terrain of uncertainty and resilience through a surreal, emotive figure. The artist was inspired during a time of personal upheaval when answers were scarce, but forward motion was necessary. The elongated neck symbolises the stretch between heart and mind, the emotional and the rational. The figure’s face, coloured in unnatural greens and yellows, reflects a sense of alienation or unfamiliarity with one’s own path.

Despite this confusion, the eyes vivid blue and filled with quiet sorrow convey depth and clarity. The background swirls in cosmic gradients of blue, green, and gold, representing life’s chaos and possibility. The red hair, painted with bristled strokes, hints at a burning inner spirit refusing to dim.

At the collarbone, the inscription reads: “Not knowing, one goes on” a quiet mantra of perseverance. It speaks to the courage of continuing without certainty, of trusting the next step without seeing the whole path. It’s both a personal affirmation and a universal truth.
