Artwork Description

We set off on a bicycle ride one morning around HoiAn. The ride was quite pleasant, although you had to be continually aware of approaching, motorbikes, carts and trucks with horns blaring when they approaching. As we were passing a Vietnamese farmer with a water buffalo our guide asked us if we would like our photo taken riding the buffalo. Good photo opportunity we thought! Well, let’s just say that “Buffalo Man”, as then became his name, engaged in some quite risqué behaviour. Being Aussies we took it in our stride and saw the funny side and thought the whole episode hilarious.

Artist Bio

I am based in Hervey Bay, Queensland Australia and mostly self-taught. I am a contemporary realist painter influenced by impressionist colour theory, drawing my inspiration from nature, the human form and my love of travel and photography. I mostly work with soft pastel mainly because of the tactile nature of the medium and the amazing colour. I like the direct intervention between my fingers and my working surface. My goal is to capture the essence of the subject, rather than producing too much detail, just a feeling of the subject. My intuitive use of colour is what most excites me when I create a new painting. I love colour, I feel colour and I see colour from a different perspective. Being an artist and having this gift allows me to bring my imagination to my surface and paint it as I see it.
