Artwork Description

This artwork was inspired by a trip to Africa. I fell in love with the animals. This painting was inspired by a photo I took while visiting Ngorongoro Crater. We ate lunch down in the crater whilst surrounded by zebras, wildebeests, warthogs and hyenas while we were in the confines of a vehicle, of course. It was magical! So I had to put that to paper! This artwork is a prize winning artwork. It received first place in the Contemporary Section of Fraser Coast Art Competition. This artwork is professionally framed and ready to hang. Framed size is 106cm x 85cm.

Artist Bio

I am based in Hervey Bay, Queensland Australia and mostly self-taught. I am a contemporary realist painter influenced by impressionist colour theory, drawing my inspiration from nature, the human form and my love of travel and photography. I mostly work with soft pastel mainly because of the tactile nature of the medium and the amazing colour. I like the direct intervention between my fingers and my working surface. My goal is to capture the essence of the subject, rather than producing too much detail, just a feeling of the subject. My intuitive use of colour is what most excites me when I create a new painting. I love colour, I feel colour and I see colour from a different perspective. Being an artist and having this gift allows me to bring my imagination to my surface and paint it as I see it.
