Artwork Description

1999
Rajyogini Dadi Janki (1 January 1916 – 27 March 2020) was an Indian spiritual leader. She headed the Brahma Kumaris movement, the world's largest spiritual organisation run by women.
Dadi Janki was 21 years old when she chose her spiritual path and became a founding member of Brahma Kumaris. Later in 1974, despite she spoke no English at the time, she moved to the United Kingdom to become an ambassador for the movement, and lived there for about 40 years.
Dadi Janki ran workshops at Lucinda House a rehab where I became an Art Therapist. Her views on mindfulness influenced the way I teach and live.
Seeing that most people in the prison system were battling addiction, I was trying to find ways to deal with these problems.

Artist Bio

Jo is the founder of True Gusto, an artistic enterprise specialising in creating historical murals and picture books that celebrate regional heritage, particularly focusing on areas such as Lightning Ridge, through Cunnamulla, to Yowah’s opal industry.
Through rich visual storytelling, Jo brings regional histories to life, fostering cultural preservation and community identity. Through her collaborative, research-driven practice, Jo transforms public spaces into dynamic educational platforms that empower communities across generations.
The story can be as simple as capturing the love between a man and his animal or as complex as reimagining the complex personality of historical figures such as the Eulo Queen and the even more complicated people who record their lives, like Hugh Sawrey.
