Artwork Description

Longing for Golden Beach, I use references to paint my spot until I can get back again. This piece is heavily textured with paper-mache and the frame is created from paper mache and hardened before painting.

Artist Bio

Jo is the founder of True Gusto, an artistic enterprise specialising in creating historical murals and picture books that celebrate regional heritage, particularly focusing on areas such as Lightning Ridge, through Cunnamulla, to Yowah’s opal industry.
Through rich visual storytelling, Jo brings regional histories to life, fostering cultural preservation and community identity. Through her collaborative, research-driven practice, Jo transforms public spaces into dynamic educational platforms that empower communities across generations.
The story can be as simple as capturing the love between a man and his animal or as complex as reimagining the complex personality of historical figures such as the Eulo Queen and the even more complicated people who record their lives, like Hugh Sawrey.
