I painted them in one day. I had been trying for some time, as the scene was important to me, but interestingly, mo matter how energetic I was, the moment I approached the painting I became quite suddenly exhausted to the point I could barely move. And I'm pretty sure I had divine assistance because I even found I did not wish to paint. I was too tired. Too defeated. I cleaned the house a little and was about to go to bed and lay down in exhaustion when I found myself preparing my paints and thinking 'Just pick up the brush. You need only start and you won't be stopped. The enemy will fall away.' And the very moment my brush touched the canvas the veil of fatigue and defeat evaporated. We charged into battle.
This is the image I saw when at church the other week. The first time I'd attended in decades. The beautiful voices of the men and women behind me were singing the words 'and through it all, through it all, my eyes are on you... so let It go my soul and trust in Him, the waves and wind still know His name'. The words meant too much to me and couldn't speak them for weeping. As I stood the stage disappeared and they galloped toward me, into me, and I galloped, my soul renewed going to battle again, over and again for Him, wearing His shining armour.
When I made the under painting I considered putting full armour on the horse to make it clear, but it's not what I saw, and I think it will call with strength to the souls who wish to ride with me as it is.
I'm listening to the piece now as I write this and I still can't sing it. Just sit here blubbing instead.
I really hope you enjoy this painting. I hope you enjoy the Paleo Hebrew that makes up the armour.
If this piece speaks to you please consider looking up the song and listen to it as you view the image.
