Migrating from the tropical island of Mauritius in 1984 , it was a pleasant and surprising experience to discover the vastness and dryness of the Australian scenery on my caravanning trips around Australia. The luscious tropical landscape of my home island implanted in me a love for vibrant and intense colours.
I taught for many years as a French teacher and explored drawing and painting only upon retirement. Since I have always been an independent learner, most of my knowledge and skills were self taught through books. Later on, I had a few lessons ,took a few courses online and recently discovered the wealth of instruction on YouTube .
For the last 2 years , I moved from realistic landscapes to semi abstract and contemporary painting. Having taken a course with Australian intuitive expressionist Tracey Verdugo, I started using mixed media, alcohol inks, stencils and acrylics. I discovered at the same time cold wax medium to add to my oils. I am currently taking a course with American artist Lisa Mann .I delight in creating textures with home made papers, lace, hessian , sand, leaves etc…
Painting has become more of an exciting and playful expérience which allows me to lose myself for hours and emerge with dirty fingers and a profusion of paintings pulsating with vibrant colors. Starting with a color scheme and a chosen composition, I allow myself to be guided by my intuition. I start each painting as an adventure , a thrilling journey into the unknown.I believe that this way of painting has helped me to express my unique voice and style.
I joined the local Victor Harbor Art Society in the last 2 years and I am inspired and spurred on by the atmosphere of healthy competition .
