Hi, I’m Jo Cunningham, a contemporary artist residing on the back beach of Blairgowrie, Mornington Peninsula. My love of art started way back as a child and has never really left me. I feel privileged to be able to immerse myself in a world of creativity. My art journey is one filled either with vibrant, bright and bold colours with a sense of pop and playfulness or the moodiness of monochromatics, exploring charcoal and soft pastels in mainly black, white and taupe or dabbling in subtle oils. So I’m an artist playing with bold colours on one brush in the abstract/ floral world and in the other brush I love nothing more capturing the expressions of African children and women with soft oils or dramatic bold charcoal and soft pastels.
My love of painting derives from the world of color and my passion for charcoals, subtle oils and soft pastels comes from the love of people and the power of their expressions.
Every moment of every day we are surrounded by colour, whether a flower, the sky or the icing on that cupcake you are about to eat…. So this is my inspiration for my abstract and floral works.
I have exhibited and sold my art in local art shows along the Mornington Peninsula, Northern Victoria and locally in Melbourne. I want my art to arouse the senses and create an emotive response. I am constantly inspired by nature, the ever changing magic of the ocean and bay as well as my love of travelling. The colors are bold, vibrant and rich with deep intensity. The pink palette is a favorite of mine, as it stimulates a lighthearted playfulness…as well as being my signature lipstick!
The soft velvet nature of pastels together with the dark coarseness of charcoal continue to excite me and my journey of capturing big innocent eyes of children or voluptuous lips of a African Mumma.
So I hope you enjoy my artwork !
