Jodie Coker is a Melbourne born artist based on the Gold Coast. Currently working in acrylics, her paintings are subtly emotive as well as being thoughtfully aesthetic.
From an early age Jodie’s artworks have been described by others as ‘magical realism’. Strongly influenced by her artist grandfather and encouraged by her father, she painted her first oil painting at the age of three. It was a portrait of her sister which resulted in her first art award.
There is an old saying, “remember to stop and smell the roses.” Not only has the artist lived by this saying, she has taken it a step further. Stop, smell the roses, notice a small flower growing in a crack in the pavement, photograph the flower in the crack and the rose then go home and paint them both. Sharing this whimsical way of looking at life through her paintings, it is the artist’s wish to enhance the finer details in life, whether it is the delicate formation of a flower or the glint in a birds eye. She says, “I like reminding the viewer that there can be beauty among the mundane things in life if we just look closely enough.”
After winning multiple awards over the years, Jodie is now ready to share her lifelong love of painting with collectors and viewers by having her artworks available for purchase online.
