Artwork Description

Cloud Watching 1 is a skyscape of an ominous storm cloud that overtook the sky in Brisbane on 24 January 2024. It is the first work in a new series involving 'looking up' which is a focus in my current arts practice for the Master of Visual Arts. The work investigates the power of staring and simply appreciating the beauty of life for improved brain health. The work reminds the viewer to slow down.

This work will lift any space and bring the beauty of nature to indoors. The large scale makes the work suitable for rooms that need a focal point.
The Artist signature sits on the bottom left hand wall of the work with the intention to not impose on the composition. Should the work be framed, the signature is disguised within the frame.

Artist Bio

I am an Australian born painter based in Brisbane. My artworks are held in private collections both in Australia and internationally. I am foremost a painter, yet also incorporate print and mixed medium into my work, depending on the purpose of story I wish to tell. I am enrolled in the Master of Visual Arts at Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University with expected completion at the end of 2026. A self-proclaimed ‘painting junkie’, each composition is an opportunity to explore identity and place. I have spent the last twenty years producing large format vertical works on a range of substrates including linen, canvas, Perspex and Lexcen. I embrace an intuitive approach with Visual Arts and am motivated by what speaks to me at the time.

Originally a co-artist of Cherry Contemporary Art, I have worked solo since 2015. My current work explores and captures whimsical and poignant moments in time that help me to navigate a way forward from here. Themes within compositions may move between natural print installations painted in reverse on Perspex, to luscious paintings of flowers in oils on linen. I am an avid admirer of American born modernist painter Georgia O’Keefe and her sensuous oil paintings that teetered between realism and abstraction, often with unapologetic magnified introspection.

I use symbolism in each composition to evoke a sense of story and anticipate leaving the viewer with space to relate my work to their consciousness - a composition leans into surreal, modern or abstraction depending on the many serendipitous art making processes that occur at the time. In the past I have treasured knowing every owner of each of my works and have loved building connection and beauty into homely spaces.
