*** WILDLIFE RESCUE FUNDRAISER ***
I will be donating $800 from the sale price of this artwork to the WIRES Wildlife Rescue Emergency Fund, to assist them in caring for animals displaced by the 2019 -20 Australian bushfires.
The piece is called "In the Fire, Steel is Forged" and I created it after the 2013 bush fires that destroyed 210 houses and burnt 65,000 hectares of land in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, where I live.
The name of the artwork is referring to the way my local community pulled together in through these fires and were made stronger as a result.
The fires that Australia is currently experiencing are of a scale that is almost impossible to comprehend, and many are continuing to burn out of control across the country.
It is estimated that over 1 billion native animals have been impacted this fire season, with many requiring ongoing medical treatment and food due to the loss of their habitat.

The artwork itself is a multi-layered collage of a geometric design created from hundreds of individual elements cut from the pages of glossy magazines and constructed on a wooden panel. The surface is then coated with a gloss varnish which not only protects the piece but adds a lustrous sheen. The piece is signed on the reverse side and supplied ready to hang.
It has previously been exhibited at the Braemer Gallery in Springwood in 2014, and also at Gallery ONE88 in Katoomba in my solo Some Assembly Required exhibition in 2016, both locations within the Blue Mountains.
