Johannes migrated to Australia with his parents at an early age, where he discovered a passion for photography during his teenage years. This early interest in capturing the world around him naturally evolved into a love for painting in his twenties. His talent was soon recognised when he sold his first major work at Sydney’s prestigious Royal Easter Show Exhibition.
A true globetrotter, Johannes has traveled to 47 countries, always with a keen eye behind the camera. The photographs he takes on his journeys serve as a rich source of inspiration for his art. Over the years, he has experimented with various mediums, including oils, acrylics, watercolours, and pastels, but has now committed exclusively to working with oils. While most of his paintings are characterised by a realistic style, some pieces venture into impressionism, maintaining a balance between realism and artistic expression.
Johannes has received numerous accolades for his work, including being the winner of the RAAF Association Art Show in Melbourne and a finalist in the 2010 Country Energy $35,000 Art Prize for Landscape Painting. Additionally, he has earned various awards in regional art shows.
Despite his success, Johannes remains dedicated to his artistic ideals. He believes in creating work that is true to his vision rather than conforming to the often controversial trends that dominate many of today’s art competitions. As a result, he chooses to focus on his craft rather than seeking validation from such events.
I have a number of favourite artists whose work I admire, but the one who has inspired me the most is Vincent van Gogh, even though our styles of painting are vastly different. I've always admired his commitment to his work despite the odds that were stacked against him.
I'm always happy to answer questions about my art and would in fact encourage you to ask away before committing to a purchase.
