This painting depicts part of the amazing coral reef that surrounds Rarotonga (Cook Islands), in the South Pacific. During a visit to this incredible island, I was fortunate enough to spend 7 amazing days exploring the local reef and marine life this area has to offer. Large waves that role through this area hit the outer edge of the reef where it drops away to the ocean floor below and reduces the waves size and energy dramatically. The result is this tidal pool like area which was incredible to snorkel and swim in.
