Artwork Description

I live between the Barossa and Clare valleys (two main wine regions of South Australia), and the changing seasons and colours of the landscape influences my artwork greatly.

Artist Bio

I create art because, like most artists, I'm driven to paint and draw what I see and feel about a subject. I studied art at the Adelaide Central School of Art. This was largely centred on life- drawing and oil painting, both areas where I was very successful. A highlight of my time at the Central School of Art was when I took part in a live drawing tutorage event, conducted by the highly successful artist and teacher, Rod Tayor. Here, I also had the privilege of taking part in the Inaugural New York Studio School Drawing Marathon, in Adelaide, conducted by Graham Nixon, the Dean of the New York Studio School. Here I was able to realise and stretch my drawing capacities, and I believe that this is a main grounding in my artwork.

My work has been exhibited extensively, including at commercial galleries, and at the Adelaide Central School of Art, and I have sold a large number of works. I've been an artist since the mid 1980's, while also working on construction jobs around Australia, as a pipefitter. In 1992-93, I was commissioned to paint four works for the Australian Submarine Corporation, and my 'Restructuring' series was acquired by the Metals & Engineering Workers' Union. I live in an idyllic rural setting in the mid north of South Australia. My studio is a century- old schoolhouse, with plenty of natural light. In my work, I've been heavily influenced by Claude Monet, and I believe that this is reflected in much of my painting. I constantly work however to push the barriers, and experiment with differing concepts in painting.
