This was inspired by a public domain black and white photo from the 1930's. It is of a small group of bathers running along the beach at Burleigh Heads in Queensland. The swim suits and hair styles are evocative of the times. I think the painting has a strong nostalgic feel of Australian beach culture. The original black and white photo is in the Queensland State Library archives.

Artist Bio
A self taught artist. I don't restrict myself in media and styles.I enjoy painting in oils, acrylics, gouache and watercolour. I have an affinity for capturing moments from places I have been lucky enough to travel to. Often developing paintings from plein air sketches I have done in the field. Whilst I enjoy contemporary realism and impressionism I will sometimes stray into the realm of pure abstraction. Convincing portrayals of light and colour are usually my main goals. Subject matter can range from the grand to the mundane and quirky.
