Surfer and Sun Pennies

I once heard an artist describe sparkles on water described as sun pennies. I thought that was a good word and if I ever did a painting with late afternoon sun on the water..they would be sun pennies. The background is loosely a Bondi skyline. The surfer contemplates maybe one last wave.

A self taught artist. I don't restrict myself in media and styles.I enjoy painting in oils, acrylics, gouache and watercolour. I have an affinity for capturing moments from places I have been lucky enough to travel to. Often developing paintings from plein air sketches I have done in the field. Whilst I enjoy contemporary realism and impressionism I will sometimes stray into the realm of pure abstraction. Convincing portrayals of light and colour are usually my main goals. Subject matter can range from the grand to the mundane and quirky.
