Winter in Lucca

A cold winter's day in the Italian city of Lucca. Fine old town in the Tuscany region. The bare trees frame the main piazza. The striped red kiosk is a bright note in the somewhat sombre scene.

A self taught artist. I don't restrict myself in media and styles.I enjoy painting in oils, acrylics, gouache and watercolour. I have an affinity for capturing moments from places I have been lucky enough to travel to. Often developing paintings from plein air sketches I have done in the field. Whilst I enjoy contemporary realism and impressionism I will sometimes stray into the realm of pure abstraction. Convincing portrayals of light and colour are usually my main goals. Subject matter can range from the grand to the mundane and quirky.
