In the rainforest of Ecuador, a booted racket-tail hummingbird hovers beneath a hanging cluster of bright yellow flowers, reaching up to feed. Its green plumage glows, and its long racket tail trails out to the right.
The booted racket-tail is a tiny Andean hummingbird, around three grams, famous for the male's long bare tail shafts tipped with dark paddles and for the fluffy white puffs on its legs. Like all hummingbirds it feeds constantly, hovering at flowers and carrying their pollen from bloom to bloom.
The dark green background lets the yellow flowers and the green-and-blue bird stand out cleanly. The flowers hang from the top left, the bird reaches up from below, and the tail draws a long line across the frame.
It is a fresh, colourful print with a strong sense of life. It suits a living room, bedroom, study or nursery, and makes a lovely gift for bird lovers and anyone who has travelled in South America.
