Firefoot Climber Ed. 2 of 30

On an early evening walk through the Ecuadorian rainforest, I found this red-eyed tree frog climbing a mossy branch. Its orange toe pads glowed like embers as it moved, slowly folding and unfolding its limbs on its way up toward the canopy.

Few animals wear colour as boldly as the red-eyed tree frog: green back, blue and yellow flanks, orange feet and those unmistakable red eyes. By day it sleeps flattened against a leaf with its colours hidden. If something disturbs it, it flashes its eyes and flanks, startling the predator for the split second it needs to escape.

I let the frog's colours carry the image. The branch rises in a diagonal from bottom left to top right, and the soft, dark green background keeps the attention on the climbing frog and its bright feet.

It is a vivid, joyful print full of colour and movement. It suits a child's room, kitchen, study or living room, and makes a fun, memorable gift for anyone who loves frogs or the tropics.
