Leaf Frog Ed. 2 of 30

Deep in the Ecuadorian rainforest, a small tree frog had settled into the fold of a giant leaf and was peering over the edge like someone looking over a garden fence. The leaf's veins ran out from behind it in perfect symmetry. It was one of those frames that is simply handed to you.

Tree frogs spend much of their lives on leaves like this. Their toe pads grip wet, waxy surfaces, and their colouring blends with the greens and browns of the understorey. In Ecuador, which has one of the richest frog faunas on Earth, a single patch of forest can hold dozens of species, most of them active at night.

What I love about this image is its humour and balance. The frog sits dead centre, chin resting on the leaf's edge, eyes calm and slightly judging. The radiating lines of the leaf pull everything toward it.

It is a fresh, green, gently funny portrait-format print. It suits a child's room, a bathroom, a study or a narrow wall, pairs naturally with botanical art and indoor plants, and makes a charming gift for anyone who loves frogs or the rainforest.
