Some moments are handed to you by nature without effort, and this was one of them. I spotted the frog nestled perfectly between the folds of a giant leaf, looking like it had appointed itself king of the canopy. The symmetry was too perfect to ignore. Its wide throat rested like a drawn curtain, while its eyes held that distinct mix of curiosity and judgement tree frogs seem to master. I was deep in Ecuador’s rainforest, chasing movement in every direction, when stillness turned out to be the story. What struck me most was how calm it seemed, completely at ease, cradled in green.
