Artwork Description

A single yacht drove hard across a dark sea beneath a heavy, dramatic sky during the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. The sails were bright where the light broke through, and spray flew from the bow as the crew pushed the boat to its limit.

The race tests every sailor. After the colourful start in Sydney Harbour the fleet heads south into open water, and conditions on the Tasman Sea and in Bass Strait can turn from calm to brutal in hours. For crews, the reward is finishing at all.

The portrait format gives the sky most of the frame, and the yacht sits small but sharp near the bottom. Black and white emphasises the contrast between the bright sails, the black water and the brooding cloud above.

Printed large, it is a dramatic vertical statement piece. It suits a hallway, living room, study or beach house, and makes a meaningful gift for sailors and lovers of the sea.
