An elephant made its unhurried way across the open savannah of Botswana on a wide, quiet afternoon. The grass stretched pale gold around it, the sky was soft and warm, and the animal moved with a slow, certain calm.
African elephants can walk many kilometres a day between water and food, following routes that older family members remember. Botswana has the largest elephant population in the world, roughly a third of all African elephants, and in places like this you can watch them move across the landscape for hours.
The elephant fills the right of the frame, mid-stride, trunk hanging loose, with a few low trees on the horizon and a lot of soft space around it. The muted, almost pastel palette gives the image a gentle, contemplative mood.
Printed large, it is a calm, elegant safari image for a living room, bedroom or study. The soft tones suit neutral and Scandinavian interiors, and it makes a meaningful gift for anyone who has been on safari in Botswana.
