Wind Warriors Ed. 2 of 30

During the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race I tracked the fleet from a chase boat under a sky full of streaked cloud. The light broke through just as this yacht angled south, its mainsail and headsail backlit, the hull cutting a clean line through the glittering sea.

The race starts in Sydney Harbour every Boxing Day and finishes 628 nautical miles later on the Derwent River in Hobart, after crossing the notorious Bass Strait. Out at sea it becomes a test of endurance and judgement, with every gust and shift in the weather a decision for the crew.

In black and white the scene is all light and shape: the dark sails against a silver sky, the shining water and the single boat set low in the frame. The image feels still, but the yacht was moving fast. That balance of power and calm is what the race is about.

Printed large, it is a timeless, graphic seascape for a living room, study, office or beach house, and a natural gift for sailors and lovers of the sea.
