High above the treetops, three blue-and-yellow macaws flew across a clear blue sky in close formation, wings beating in rhythm, long tails streaming behind them.
Blue-and-yellow macaws are found across northern South America, from Panama to Brazil, in forests near rivers and swamps. They are highly social, often flying in pairs or family groups, and pairs usually stay together for life. Their loud calls carry over long distances, so you often hear them well before you see them.
The frame is almost empty, just three birds and a soft gradient of blue. That simplicity lets you see the shapes clearly: the spread wings, the golden underparts and the long pointed tails, all lined up in a gentle diagonal.
