Artwork Description

A black and white magpie perched atop a tree weighing up the foe down below. The magpie's menacing sharp beak is ready to fetch blood on unsuspecting figures below. The background features a vivid blue sky, emphasising the stark contrast between the peaceful scene above and the impending attack below. This depiction captures the essence of swoop season in Western Australia, where magpies are known to aggressively defend their territory against perceived threats. The painting evokes a sense of apprehension and trepidation, as viewers can almost feel the impending swoop of the magpie as it prepares to defend its territory. Artist John Mason has first-hand experience as to how vicious a magpie swoop can be.

Artist Bio

I was born in Preston, Lancashire in 1949 and currently live in Carramar, Western Australia………. where I have resided for the past 30 years.
I was the owner of a successful family-run Real Estate Agency for 12 years prior to retirement in late 2017.
Before relocating to Perth in 1990 I lived on the troubled war-torn Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea for 10 years, followed by 3 years in the Solomon Islands.

As an artist, by using my vivid imagination……… I am able to create and communicate my ideas into visual form on a blank canvas.
My artwork has certainly enriched my life and here’s to hoping that same can enrich someone else’s life, as my creations hang prominently displayed on your walls.
When you engage with my artwork, I sincerely hope that you too will be overcome by feelings of joy, loads of feel-good energy, and relief from stress, as you form a good harmonious relationship with the contrasting colours and vitality that rises up from my canvases.

All of my paintings are acrylic on stretched canvas; ready to hang. In my studio I ask Alexa to play music very loud by my favourite artists, as same gives me inspiration.
Painting is therapeutic to me and I get a great feeling of pleasure as I disappear into my creativeness whereby I apply rich and vibrant acrylic colours to my canvas.
Through my artwork; it is my desire to put a smile on your face ………. and bring some joy to your heart.
