Artwork Description

When I venture out to take landscape photos in nature, I'm always hoping for a killer sunrise or sunset to really enhance the beauty of the location I'm in. While I'm waiting for this perfect light, (or sometimes when it doesn't appear at all), I find myself viewing my surroundings with a more abstract eye.

Living by the ocean gives me lots of opportunities to create abstract, pleasing artwork. The movement of water can be manipulated to show increasing degrees of motion. Then I can choose to bring in the colours if they enhance the image, or alternatively play with black and white to bring out the textures present.

With this particular image, I chose to keep the shape of the water and the waves, yet subtly softened with some movement and a longer exposure. The epic sunset colours reflecting off the water add to this scene.

And while an image like this could be literally on any coastline in the world, it was taken near Bermagui on an isolated and beautiful beach on the NSW Far South Coast.

Artist Bio

You could say that my photographic journey started deeply rooted within the art world. My inspiration came from nature – light, shadow, geometry, and patterns. I started to study the work of other talented photographers, so that my interest in photography – always hovering in the background – sparked into flame as I started to experiment with my first ‘grown up’ camera. My exploration has taken me across a range of photographic genres – weddings, architecture, travel, landscapes, commercial, portraits and more. I feel I’ve come full circle now, and my passion for sharing the world as I see it has been strengthened by my exposure to a variety of subjects and the shooting styles and technical skills they require.I’m happiest when I see the reactions and intrigue of people viewing my work. So all I ask is that you give yourself permission to explore whatever inspiration you feel when you look at my photos… and think about how you can put that inspiration into action.
