Artwork Description

A colour portrait of a very old but still going strong paddle steamer. Built as a barge in the early years of the last century. In it's life, the Marion has been a barge, a tow vessel and in the later years a passenger vessel, now it has been lovingly restored by a devout band of volunteers.

Artist Bio

One of the bitter things in life is making a living, I like to eat and to do this, I worked as a photographer. Simple stuff, people would arrive, they had a product, a layout and your job was to photograph that layout. For a lot of the time I was involved in the film industry returning to the studio. Again, the work one does is dictated by others. For a decade photography took another turn, this time alternating between wine and food and tourism, but still others told me what to shoot, where and how. It is something you live with if photography is your livelihood. I have always had a desire to do creative work where I am the only one calling the shots and since retirement that has been my aim. predominantly, I shoot black and white since it leads me away from old habits however, colour is always there.
