Artwork Description

Australia is a vast island-continent with thousands of kilometers shoreline on which most of its cities are located. some are over 200 years old, but these shore cities and towns have harbors and places where people can moor their boats. Also, besides the Australian indigenous people, all others are from many parts of the world and are familiar with boats and barges on inland rivers. These barges were the freight movers in earlier days and have been replaced with trucks and trains in Australia, but in the old countries they still are delivering cargo from the cities which are sited on waterways. Is this painting from a particular place? NO! but it is painted after the manner of earlier European art, without reference from a photo. This is most common among European and other countries not to paint anything topographically accurate, but in a romanticized style from the artist's point of view or his memory. If you think art should always be photographically accurate, you should buy a photo of the scene you like, not a painting.
Well, that is my opinion anyway.

Artist Bio

Kivits’ classic oeuvre includes not only original Still-life’s, but also Fruit and Floral compositions, Landscapes, Seascapes and Figurative works in glazes of oil-paint. Predominantly tapping into his antique collection for inspiration, his works take considerably longer to produce; hence a small number of masterpieces are created annually.
True traditional realism, all in the line from the Sixteenth century European Masters onward, he is staying true to these time-proven styles, refusing digital means to aid his work, e.g. projection, pre-printed canvas, grid tracings, or anything but the skill of his own eyes to hand.
Dutch-born Kivits' has firmly established himself in Australia as a legitimate Brand over the years, and his creations have found their ways to art lovers in many developed countries.
