Benvenuto Cellini was a genius Sculptor, goldsmith and writer, and his designs influenced the time of the great Florence period of 16th Century Italy.
In 1990, hunting for objects to be included in my more important Still life compositions; I spotted this Victorian silver jug in an exclusive Sydney Antique shop. I recognized that it was made after a Cellini jug shown in a 17th century Italian painting. This particular one in my painting was made in the 1880โs in England. The ticket price was then already on the high side and I negotiated a price with part swap of one of my paintings.
It took me years before I had enough confidence to include it into one of my own still life compositions. In the painting shown here the jug is prominent, but not to the extent that it dominates, hence the marble column, lead-glass window and other such distractions.
The size demands an important place on the wall, and will look best in a foyer, entrance, an eclectic, or semi classic interior.
