Artwork Description

'New Holland Honeyeater' - Original artwork, oil painting on stretched canvas, 15 x 30.5cm (6 x 12in)

This New Holland Honeyeater was spotted on the side of the track on Tommos Loop Firetrail in Brisbane Water National Park, Central Coast NSW. Perched on a branch this solitary Honeyeater was happily taking in the morning sun, giving me a generous amount of time to take reference pictures before flying off to start its day. I enjoyed painting this small painting with its monochrome shades contrasted with the pop of colour in the bright yellow wing feathers and subtle light blue eye.
Artwork is sold unframed.

Artist Bio

Welcome to my profile, my names Josh and I’m an artist based in the Maitland NSW area with a focus on wildlife paintings. Two of my favourite hobbies are hiking and painting so I love nothing more than getting the camera and adventuring out on a bushwalk to find new subjects for my paintings. I really enjoy this process of capturing my own reference material and going back to the studio to browse through the photos. It’s always exciting when I find a brilliant photo amongst the hundreds I’ve taken, where the bird was in an unusual dynamic pose, or I've managed to find a new species I haven't seen in the wild before. From these reference pictures I sketch up a design and transfer it onto the canvas to create a unique artwork from the experience. I paint mostly on stretched canvas and canvas panel boards using oil paints as I enjoy the slow drying time and blending process.

The creation of an artwork is finalised with a bit of information about the bird while where possible, adding its sighted location, date and what I observed. I think if you're purchasing my artworks you must like/love Australian birds and might be a bit of a Twitcher yourself and would be interested to know a bit more about the bird that you now own. I also like the thought of my clients going out on location and trying to track down the very same bird they have hanging on their wall. If you do this, good luck and have fun!

Thanks for stopping by and reading through my bio, if you love the Australian outdoors and wildlife or are a fellow bird nerd, I welcome you to follow me to keep updated with the new birds flying onto my artwork page.
