I was struck by the subtle beauty of a dried banksia flower I had in my studio, with its more desaturated and neutralised colours compared to its ripe counterpart. I composed this painting in a manner that would compliment and enhance this particular banksiaโs beauty.
The vases create a unified yet slightly off kilter silhoutte, the stripes add a decorative aspect to the foreground, and the overall space is neutral toned. All these compositional elements function to highlight and emphasise the characteristics of the dried banksia flower.
