Artwork Description

I was struck by the subtle beauty of a dried banksia flower I had in my studio, with its more desaturated and neutralised colours compared to its ripe counterpart. I composed this painting in a manner that would compliment and enhance this particular banksia’s beauty.
The vases create a unified yet slightly off kilter silhoutte, the stripes add a decorative aspect to the foreground, and the overall space is neutral toned. All these compositional elements function to highlight and emphasise the characteristics of the dried banksia flower.

Painted from life using Michael Harding, Langridge and Williamsburg oil paints.

Artist Bio

Josseline Jeria is a Contemporary Australian born painter, currently based in Sydney.
Focusing on the Fine arts, I work predominately in realist traditions based in impressionistic and expressionistic styles. I explore incorporating abstract qualities in my work, to create different pictorial spaces and to emphasize focal points. My choice of style for a given painting is made based on the composition and the mood I wish for the audience to experience when viewing my work.
I enjoy exploring the full spectrum of colour palettes, from monochromatic to highly saturated, and from minimal to complex interpretations of objects, landscapes and people.
The majority of my paintings are painted from life.
