About

JUDI GOODWIN

I am a retired school teacher who is enjoying my retirement doing what I love best, ' living the dream' and painting whenever I can. Firstly using acrylics, I branched out to watercolour and recently studied oil painting at a residential art school in Portugal, to add to my repertoire. Colour amazes me and I use bright eye-catching colours in my paintings, with lots of texture, using varied subject matter and medium. I recently ventured into abstract painting and am now developing a passion for abstracts.
I am a member of Art Arena, Kiama Art Society, Project Art Group, Shellharbour City Art Society, Shoalhaven Art Society and Illawarra Craft and Art Network. I am a regular exhibitor at Shellharbour Village Exhibition Space, Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival, Old Kiama Fire Station, Shoalhaven Art Gallery, Berry School of Arts and Wollongong Old Court House. My paintings have hung in Samuel’s Restaurant and Bar Thirroul, Stocklands Shellharbour, Ablaze Restaurant and Bar, Nowra, Muir House Gallery in Berry and Ten Thousand Paces in Bowral.
I love exhibiting my work and sharing my love of art. I began studying Art at High School where I chose Art as one of my electives. I specialised in Creative Arts at Wollongong University while I was studying for my Diploma of Teaching. While teaching Primary School students for 42 years, I shared my love of art and my talents with my pupils, many who have gone on to be artists themselves.
Community Involvement
Once a week I enjoy helping a group of senior citizens with whom I share my expertise and love of art in a hall in Windang. I have held three art exhibitions as fundraising activities in the Illawarra area: I have raised money for RedKite, an organisation helping families of children with cancer at Art Arena Gallery in Wollongong. My artwork has helped to provide resources for special needs students from Peterborough SSP school in Warilla , at a fundraising exhibition I held at Shellharbour Village Exhibition Space. More recently I held an exhibition in Kiama and raised $800 for young Illawarra athletes with an intellectual disability to give them some financial assistance to represent New South Wales at the Australia Special Olympic games in Melbourne.
I have also donated paintings to fund raising raffles held by Kiama Lions Club, Peterborough SSP School and Illawarra Special Olympics.
