Julia is an Artist based in the Gold Coast, and originally from South Africa, where her love of the land and nature was sparked. Her work is predominantly abstract or expressionistic and explores colours, textures and emotions evoked by experiencing nature first hand on beach walks, hikes in the hinterland, native and local garden plants or encounters with animals. She works mainly in acrylic, but also loves to include mixed media and cyanotype print making into her process to capture plants and textures of nature directly with her abstract, colour-filled style. Her lush, layered forms and marks feel like an escape into nature, alive with light, texture and emotion. Her joyful colours, layered foliage forms and abstract brushwork evoke a feeling of mystery and serenity. She paints from her home studio with her failthful, furry companion and studio partner, Dougal the pug.
