Artwork Description

My work is inspired by a deep love and fascination for Australia's unique flora and fauna. As someone who was not born in Australia, I continue to experience the landscape with a sense of wonder and curiosity, noticing the small details that can easily be overlooked—the delicate structure of a gum blossom, the movement of insects between flowers, the textures of native leaves, and the vibrant colours that appear throughout the Australian bush.

I am particularly drawn to the rich colour palettes found within Aboriginal art and the way colour, pattern, and symbolism are used to represent connection to Country, stories, and the natural environment. While my work is not intended to replicate Aboriginal art, I am inspired by the emotional response these colours evoke and by the way the Australian landscape is often interpreted through bold, expressive colour and pattern.

Through my paintings, I aim to celebrate the beauty, diversity, and interconnectedness of Australian ecosystems. I enjoy combining realistic elements of native plants and animals with imaginative patterns and vibrant colours, creating works that reflect both the natural world and my own experience of discovering Australia as a newcomer. Each piece is an invitation to slow down, notice the small details, and appreciate the extraordinary beauty that exists within everyday Australian landscapes.

Artist Bio

Julia is an energetic artist that loves to capture moments of passion and enjoyment through various mediums, backlit with humility. Now a local Sydney hobby artist, Julia grew-up in the season rich north of Germany, where she was able to experience the vibrancy of Europe and within a progressive art scene. With her craft sharpened, it was Julia’s early start to travel abroad that set her vision and created a deeply rooted value of caring intensely for nature. Julia’s care for nature and its preservation defines her personality and this, Julia hopes, is transcended through her artistic creations.
She literally works from a blank canvas and allows her thinking and art to progress in lockstep. “I often create with no end state in mind, but simply focus on the feeling I’d hope to evoke. If you do nothing but gaze, smile and meander by, then my work is done”. Julia has completed a body of work ‘The Art of Healing’ which was very popular and seen in many art exhibitions around Sydney. Julia was an active member of the Randwick Art Society and an advocate for local artists in Sydney. Julia moved in 2022 to Scamander, Tasmania and discovered a love for the local fauna and flora, inspired to produce Tasmanian wilderness themed paintings and ocean inspired sea creature artworks.
