Artwork Description

As one of my earlier pieces this landscape is inspired by my childhood memories of European winter and the little woods near my house where I used to ski as a teenager.

The fog and pines take you far away on a misty cloudy day in the middle of winter. You can boil your hot tea, sit in the chair wrapped in a blanket and maybe daydream about your future.

This piece embodies the feeling of longing and missing home. Missing the familiar scenery when you leave the known behind and have to start anew.

You can start fresh, but sometimes you have to allow yourself to have at least a little corner of memories which will keep the essence of who you are and what has shaped you.

Artist Bio

My name is Julia, and I’m an emerging artist based in Laverton, Melbourne. I was born in
Russia and never received professional art education. At the age of six in 2000, I attended a
preparatory year at an art school but abandoned it because I had to choose between art
and swimming classes. During the pandemic 2020 my grandad inspired me to embrace the
artistic path once again. I began exploring resin art, but I soon realized that this wasn't
where my heart truly lies. I have always been fond of more traditional painting forms, so I
decided to pick up the brush properly for the first time in twenty years. I started self-
educating, drawing on the little knowledge I had from my childhood. This is how my
journey officially began.

The most common themes emerging from my works revolve around nostalgia, self-
acceptance, and the complex relationship between nature and personal identity.

My paintings explore the serenity and resilience found in nature and ourselves, often
contrasting it with the chaos of modern life. Through depictions of tranquil oceans, quiet
landscapes and figurative art, I encourage viewers to pause and appreciate the present
moment, reminding us that true beauty lies not just in appearances but in the experiences
and emotions that shape our lives.

Living so close to the ocean here in Laverton near Altona inspires my seascapes, as I see the
ocean as one of nature's most powerful creations. My landscapes draw from various sources;
earlier works reflect places I miss from Europe, while my recent paintings capture the lush
beauty of Australia. In my figurative art, I explore broad emotions, focusing on the private
thoughts and moments of strength women experience—those seemingly ordinary moments
that hold extraordinary beauty.

You will notice echoes of my experience with resin art through the abstract elements I
incorporate into my latest paintings, combining a realistic look with a hint of the unknown
and the unspoken. Leaving the space for interpretation.

My current mediums are acrylic and oil paints, with elements of mixed media such as
texture pastes. All my works are created on stretched canvases.
