Julie is a Brisbane-based artist creating under the name of Jalilla Art. She works mainly with acrylics, mixed media and texture on canvas, board and paper. Julie has been painting most of her life, and more seriously in the past 25 years. She has learned her craft through art classes and workshops, experimentation, practice and play.
Art is Julie’s sanity and her meditation. It helps to ground her and to balance out the various parts of her life. Julie loves working with strong colour, especially landscape and botanical colours. She also enjoys exploring the impact of light on a painting’s look and feel. She enjoys experimenting with her materials and seeing what differing results can occur.
Julie mixes photography with sketching especially when she travels to capture images, thoughts and impressions. She occasionally combines her travels with art retreats or workshops to add an extra layer of enjoyment, structure and inspiration to her travels. She loves exploring different perspectives of subjects, ranging from a macro-level to a birds-eye view, and from semi-abstract through to more realistic. She enjoys depicting both urban and non-urban views, but she finds that she keeps returning to botanical-related subjects and landscapes for her ‘happy place’. Julie exhibits regularly with a small group of friends in Brisbane under the name of ‘Perspectives Art Exhibition’.
