Artwork Description

A recent trip to Uluru and the surrounding outback inspired this painting. I wanted to capture the sunrise light on the landscape, the richness and depth of the colours, the reds, ochres , oranges and greens. The painting illustrates the tranquil beauty of the landscape and the stillness , giving a sense of peace , allowing one to contemplate and appreciate the surroundings.
This painting captures a moment in time before the rising sun changes , yet again , the ground and distance colours.
This painting is textural , created with a palette knife aiming to be dynamic in an abstract and expressive manner.
It’s a statement piece best viewed from a few feet away.
The insitu photos are a guide only, please check your space to make sure the size fits.
Sides painted, ready to hang .
Enjoy .

Artist Bio

Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, I recently relocated to Sydney to be closer to my three sons, who now call this vibrant city home. Trained as a nurse and midwife, I spent many years working in hospitals and within the community in Belfast. Although my professional life and raising my family often took precedence, art has always been a part of me, and I have painted for many years, even during the busiest times of my life.

My artistic expression is centered around oils, where I explore the interplay of color and texture, drawing inspiration from the natural world—whether it’s the ever-changing sea, the beauty of animals, the drama of light and shadow, or the gentle intricacies of flowers and trees. I am passionate about capturing the fleeting beauty of landscapes, animals, and floral still lifes.

Working in an impressionistic style, I use large brushes and palette knives to create pieces that are loose, free, and full of movement. Painting to music in my studio allows me to immerse myself fully in the creative process, losing track of time as I strive to capture the essence of a moment.

I also enjoy painting en plein air, which has become a joyful part of my practice, especially here in Australia, where the climate allows me to paint outdoors year-round—a welcome change from Northern Ireland! Back in Belfast, I sketched with Dundonald Plein Air Sketchers, fondly known as Art Alfresco. Now, in Sydney, I continue my sketching practice with groups like Sydney Sketch Club, Urban Sketchers, and The Shire Sketchers.

I am inspired by the wonderful large brush marks of contemporary visual artist Colin Davidson from Belfast , and also the vibrant paintings of Brian Ballard also from Belfast , and In Australia by Brett Whitely , Richard Musgrave Evans fantastic palette knife landscapes and Ken Knights beautiful seascapes.

My work has been exhibited by The Yard Gallery , Holywood, NI, Gallery 1608 , Bushmills , NI
I’ve also exhibited and sold work through numerous local exhibitions held as annual events , in church fundraisers, and with Dundonald Arts Club .
I’ve completed several commissions for clients.

My art is held in private collections in Northern Ireland and Australia.
