Julie McSpedden is an Australian artist based in Redland Bay Queensland.
Hello and welcome to my Bluethumb Art page. I am an artist and visual arts educator living on the Redlands Coast, Queensland. I have always been interested in nature and the natural environment, I have a keen interest in birds recreating native and imaginary landscapes with birds as a central theme. I love capturing the vulnerability of birdlife and the feeling of freedom I get when I see them soaring through the sky.
I grew up loving art, drawing, painting and expressing myself visually as much as I could. Living on the Bellarine Peninsular as a child in a rural environment, I was surrounded by nature and animals were part of my everyday life. Whether it be chickens or sheep on my parents’ hobby farm to wild birds that would often visit our property, it is no surprise that nature has dominated much of my imagery in the past right through to the present day. My current arts practice is centered around drawing, painting and printmaking, I enjoy the tactile qualities of mono printing and the depth and diversity of drawing and painting. I enjoy using a variety of colours in my own unique style.
I studied a diploma in Visual Arts at RMIT University where I found a love and passion of Printmaking. I then continued my studies at RMIT graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Printmaking. In 2005 I began postgraduate studies in teaching (primary and secondary) at Deakin University in Geelong.
