Artwork Description

Painted en plein air, this diptych captures the same building from two different angles—a painterly, low-tech take on the camera rotation effect seen in games and 3D software. Painted on rustic found boards, the painting's surface is as rugged as the cactus filled off-grid life style it represents.

Artist Bio

Julie Purcell combines graphic design training with fine art skills.

As a child of the 80's, late twentieth century video games inform Purcell's distinctive rendering style. In some ways, this early home entertainment influence shapes not only her artistic process but also her understanding of human nature and the world around her.

After starting out in corporate design, Purcell earned a BFA (Hons) from Queensland College of Art in 2017. Since then she has exhibited in group and solo shows; judged art competitions and has herself been the recipient of multiple art prizes.
