Beer in a glass glows in the afternoon sunlight while the bottle, with it's label partly peeled off – yes I'm one of THOSE people - sits poised for a top up in the background. A relaxing afternoon bevo after a big day of en plein air painting around Point Lookout provided the missing piece in an evolving series of holiday paintings. Having captured the sites and scenery of Stradbroke Island in several other works, I next turned to my sparkling glass of amber ale, struck by the way it glowed in the sun. This still life is a permanent record of carefree getaway.

Julie Purcell combines graphic design training with fine art skills.

As a child of the 80's, late twentieth century video games inform Purcell's distinctive rendering style. In some ways, this early home entertainment influence shapes not only her artistic process but also her understanding of human nature and the world around her.

After starting out in corporate design, Purcell earned a BFA (Hons) from Queensland College of Art in 2017. Since then she has exhibited in group and solo shows; judged art competitions and has herself been the recipient of multiple art prizes.
