This original limited-edition artwork captures the simple pleasures of family camping in the Australian bush. A classic pop-up caravan in vintage teal and crisp white sits among a colourful arrangement of camping chairs, warm jumpers and a fire barrel — clues to the chilly overnight temperatures that have brought the family together around the fire to toast marshmallows.
With the campers temporarily off exploring a nearby country town or natural attraction, the scene invites the viewer to imagine their day unfolding beyond the picture.
"Rest n Recreation" is an experimental fusion of oil painting and linocut printmaking, created using the artist’s own specially developed technique. A fifteen-layer reduction print, this piece was produced from a single lino block, progressively carved away to build the image layer by layer. Modified oil paint provides the rich colour and a distinctive, highly textured surface, combining the graphic simplicity of block printing with the tactile qualities of painting. This is number 4 of an edition of 5.
Dry native grasses rendered in a pixelated style soften the foreground, while pinks and reds enliven the camping equipment. Pale greens, khaki and neutral greys complete the natural Australian palette, creating a playful yet atmospheric celebration of outdoor family life.
A unique work for collectors of contemporary Australian art, linocut prints, camping art and nostalgic Australian landscapes.
