The artist in the studio is a self-portrait.
It’s an attempt to picture the experience of working as an artist: engaging with ideas and techniques while striving to resolve those into original work. Taming something wild.
It’s also a comment on the role and expectations of the artist in society — looking out to the world while being confined to limited space and means..
Finally, it’s a reflection on the legacy of COVID-19 lockdowns and the feeling that some things must be contained.
The work is framed in Tasmanian Blackwood with 8-ply conversation grade window mount and premium non-reflective glass (virtually invisible).
