Artwork Description

I love to spend time in the remote areas of North Western Australia. The Pilbara, Gascoyne and Kimberley regions. The variety of colours and textures always inspire!

Camping in the bush, watching the colours change on the desert gums and distant landscape was the inspiration behind Pilbara Twilight. You can almost hear the small camp fire crackling as darkness started to descend and the land became quiet.

A textured surface with embossed leaves, captures multiple glazes and layers of colour, giving an interesting yet soft view into a moment in time in the the desert.

Acrylic, ink, pencil and crayon on stretched canvas.
700 x 700 x 50mm
Professionally framed - Oak

Having studied fine art years ago and then gone on to teach myself different approaches to working with paint, I have found a special affinity with acrylics and textiles with which I can work intuitively, with my influences being both the landscape and my garden.

Working from my studio in the rural landscape and bush land of South West Australia, I am inspired by the colours and forms that surround me from both my much loved garden, the native bushland and music.

I create intuitive paintings in an abstract, impressionist style. Multiple layers of colour and mediums, including collage are built up to create complexity and depth. Sometimes recognisable elements and forms may peek through the layers, but I love how the viewer will create their own story. My artworks stimulate the imagination. If they also excite the emotions, then my work is done!

Textiles have been a special love for many years, and I create paintings from my own hand dyed Australian merino wool and silks. Combining the age old craft of wet felting, needle felting, machine and hand embroidery, I build up an image using multiple layers to create unique artworks.

Over the years I have worked with art collectives and have participated in numerous exhibitions. My paintings have been sold to collectors around Australia.
