Artwork Description

Tyson is a drawn pen-and-ink portrait created on 250gsm Fine Art Smooth (Matte) paper. Constructed from thousands of meticulously placed marks arranged in a continuous spiral pattern, the artwork explores the relationship between geometry, perception, and portraiture. Viewed up close, the piece reveals an intricate abstract composition; from a distance, the marks unite to form a striking human likeness. The work reflects a fascination with repetition, optical illusion, and the balance between mathematical structure and organic form.

Artist Bio

Drawing from a background in multimedia, digital design, and computational creativity, Jun Lee uses code as both a tool and a collaborator. His work often begins with simple geometric rules, mathematical relationships, or procedural systems that are allowed to evolve into complex visual compositions. Through this process, rigid structures give rise to fluid forms, reflecting the tension between order and chaos, precision and intuition, machine logic and natural growth.

Central to his practice is an ongoing exploration of contrast: straight lines against flowing curves, digital precision against organic imperfection, and human creativity against algorithmic generation. Inspired by patterns found in nature. From branching root systems and cellular structures to erosion, growth, and emergence, his artworks seek to reveal unexpected connections between computational systems and biological processes.
