Born in the Netherworlds, immigrated with my family to Australia in 1957. I am predominantly a landscape artist, however still life is increasingly becoming part of my oeuvre.
My paintings are an expression of the environment that I live in.
After completing my Bachelor of Fin Arts, majoring in painting at the National Art Schoo in Darlinghurst, Sydney, I moved to the Northern Rivers Region of NSW, where I completed my Diploma of Education. Since graduating I taught at high schools, visual arts in a casual capacity for 5years.
Now concentrating on my own practice, which drawing is integral to my art, inspired by the natural world and living in a rural area has allowed me to investigate the landscapeโs ever changing mood. My intention is not to portray the subject in a realistic way my main interests are with the shape, space, colour and texture of what I'm looking at.
Like most people my concerns are for the environment, and the health of the planet. I'm a painter who enjoys pushing paint around and making marks on canvas, wooden panels and paper. I paint with oil paint for its lush buttery and rich textural effect. I alike explore my subjects by drawing with charcoal on paper, and en plein air painting using gouache on paper for its immediacy, I use brushes, palette knife and sticks creating bold strokes and marks that convey an essence of the subject that leaves something for the imagination and encourage the viewer in their own process of seeing.
Currently based in Lismore and work from my home studio.
